My 10 month old shitzu is eating my wood deck where I let her out to do her thing. What can I do?
Gerri
Hi Gerri ,
I’m guessing your not out there with her. Chewing stuff up, can be a pain in the neck. I hoping this is pressure treated lumber, and not CCA treated.
Do you have a yard or just the deck. I’ve help out people that live in condos, that their back yard is their deck.
You have some options.
( 1 ) Go outside with her, to make sure she doesn’t chew on your deck. ( this option is OK advice )
( 2 ) If you have a yard, is it possible for you to buy a puppy pen for her. And put her in there, when you don’t feel like staying outside with her.( A puppy pen, is like a big play pen for puppies or small dogs, Do an online search for puppy supplies, exerciser pens, puppy pens, my favorite is http://www.kvvet.com , I’m sure you have a favorite online pet supply place. ). ( This option highly recommended)
( 3 ) Dogs like tearing up stuff. Give her a big tree branch, or a cardboard box. You can try dog toys, but the first two things, seem to work the best. ( This option, also recommended )
( 4 ) Shes to young right now for this option, now this is not nice. You have to try and scare her, when she chews up your deck. ( This option, NOT recommended)
Hope this helps you out a little, Gerri.
Also if you have questions in the future, post them on http://thespiritdog.wordpress.com.
I don’t check this blog everyday.
Bye, Gerri
P.S. Think puppy pen. Of course if you only have a deck, please let me know, and I’ll try to figure something out for you.
I have a twelve month old staffordshire bullterrier who no matter what we try will not come back when called. this is causing problems when taking him for walks. Could you please help us and advise us how to get him to obey. Thank you.
Hello Audrey
I’m guessing he’s not on a leash. I’m also guessing he will not listen to you 100% of the time in your home.
If you are walking him in relatively open spaces get a long line for him, buy a long training leash or a long piece of rope and tie a bolt snap ( the thing that connects the leash to a dogs collar) to one end of the rope.
You decide how long it is, without you having some way to control or make him listen, he could be doing this a very long time.
